Stunning antique Export Chess Board from Japan – around 1880.

The squares of the game board are decorated with fascinating gold and rust lacquer work. The playing surface is framed in a delicate gold frame and has been incorporated into stunningly beautifully carved woodwork. The burl wood (kadai) is lacquered black on the top and matt green on the underside. Made in Japan for export, not in China. Probably unique.
